May the 19th saw the fifth running of the Graham Hepsworth Memorial competition was held for the first time over 36 holes at Wexham Park Golf Course. It was the third time Wexham Park has hosted the event, held in conjunction with the BB&O PGA, and more than 30 professional assistants took part.
The competition held in memory of Graham Hepsworth, the popular professional who taught at the Colnbrook Driving Range, was previously run over 18 holes.
The winner Craig Gordon, from the Berkshire in Ascot, who carded rounds of 63 and 73 for a par finish. Joint second were Mike O'Connor (Henley, 70,67) and G Edwards (Donington Valley, 69,68) with 137.
Wexham Park professional Martin Heys was joint fourth (70,68) along-side R Neil (69,69) from Mill Ride, C Elliott (68,70) from Burnham Beeches and M Grady (70,68) of The Huntercombe.
Runner-up O'Connor, an ex Windsor Boys' School pupil, won the Sunningdale Foursomes when partnered by world star Luke Donald when they were both teenagers.
Wexham Park proprietor Gill Lindsley said: "The greenkeeping team had worked hard to get the course in peak condition for this event and it produced just two under par rounds for the day. "It is always a pleasure to hold this event, most especially because of the family link and also the assistant professionals who are so appreciative of the sponsorship."
Graham Hepsworth's son Leslie, sales director at Srixon, brought in sponsorship from the golf equipment manufaccturer.
He said: " This event marks my father's enthusiasm to promote the cause of the budding young pro." The family was also represented with Graham's daughter Sarah, and his widow Gill; who presented the prizes.
